Angad's Stance in Ravana's Court Captivates Audience
The 13th day of the traditional Ramlila, organized by the Public Shri Ramlila and Dussehra Festival Committee at the old grain mandi ground in Guna, featured a dramatic reenactment of the Angad-Ravana dialogue and Angad's act of planting his foot. This event effectively portrayed the ongoing conflict between righteousness and unrighteousness.
In a bid to avert war until the last moment, Lord Rama dispatched his prince consort, Angad, as an envoy of peace to Lanka. Upon arriving in the royal court of Lanka, Angad, with his exceptional eloquence and fearlessness, challenged the arrogant Ravana. He struck at Ravana's pride, which was boastful of his strength and ability to lift Mount Kailash.
Ravana's Arrogance Shattered by Angad's Foot
To substantiate his words, Angad firmly planted one foot in the middle of the assembly. He declared that if any powerful warrior from Lanka could move his foot, Lord Rama would retreat with his entire army. In response to this challenge, many of Ravana's mighty warriors attempted to display their strength but were completely unable to budge Angad's foot.
When the arrogant Ravana himself was compelled to bow down to touch Angad's foot, Angad withdrew his leg. He advised Ravana to embrace the path of truth and, instead of trying to hold his foot, seek refuge at the feet of Lord Rama and respectfully return Mother Sita. Angad issued a clear warning that if Mother Sita was not returned by sunrise, the destruction of Lanka was certain, a warning that Ravana dismissed in his arrogance.
