Amazon to Invest Over $35 Billion in India by 2030, Expands Focus on AI and Exports

Global e-commerce major Amazon announced on Wednesday that it will invest more than $35 billion in India by 2030, strengthening its push into artificial intelligence, logistics, and export expansion as global tech giants deepen their presence in Asia’s fastest-growing digital economy.

The move comes as major U.S. technology firms accelerate their investments in India, positioning the country as a critical hub for cloud computing, AI development and deep-tech innovation.

Big Tech Bets Big on India

On Tuesday, Microsoft pledged a record $17.5 billion investment in India for AI and cloud infrastructure by 2030 — its largest commitment in Asia.
Google has also committed $15 billion over the next five years to build advanced AI data centers in the country.

Amazon Aligns With India's National Priorities

Amazon said its planned investment is “strategically aligned with India’s national priorities”, focusing on:

  • Expanding AI capabilities

  • Strengthening logistics and fulfilment infrastructure

  • Supporting small businesses and MSMEs

  • Creating large-scale employment opportunities

The U.S. company is competing aggressively in India with Walmart-backed Flipkart and Reliance Industries’ retail arm.

Amazon’s Growing Footprint

  • Amazon has already invested $40 billion in India since 2010.

  • In 2023, it announced an additional $26 billion commitment.

  • The company now plans to create 1 million new job opportunities in India by 2030.

Amazon also revealed that its initiatives have enabled sellers in India to generate more than $20 billion in cumulative exports over the last decade, with a new target of $80 billion in exports by 2030.

A Critical Market

With the world’s largest population and a rapidly growing internet user base, India remains a vital market for Amazon’s global growth ambitions — both as a consumption-driven economy and a rising hub for AI, innovation, and digital services.
