• What happened: Amazon has launched the Echo Show 11 and fourth-gen Echo Show 8 smart displays in India.
• Why it matters now: Both devices feature Omnisense automation, spatial audio and upgraded displays, signaling Amazon’s push towards ambient AI homes.
• What changes for people: Users get faster performance, hands-free Alexa control, multi-camera monitoring and smarter temperature and presence-based routines.
• Who is affected: Smart home users, Alexa households, home-office workers and buyers upgrading from older Echo devices.
Amazon has rolled out its latest smart display lineup in India, introducing the Echo Show 11 and the fourth-generation Echo Show 8 with an emphasis on ambient smart home automation, improved audio, and sleeker designs. The devices are now available for purchase both online and in major electronics retail chains.
The launch positions Amazon to capture growing interest in connected households, security monitoring, and hands-free digital assistance, especially as more homes adopt Wi-Fi cameras, smart lighting, and voice-led entertainment.
Designed for smarter automation
Both new models run on Omnisense, a custom sensor platform built on the AZ3 Pro chip. The system uses motion, presence and temperature detection to automate routines such as turning on lights when someone enters a room or adjusting fans and air conditioners at certain temperature thresholds.
Amazon says Omnisense taps a combination of 13 MP camera, audio, ultrasound, accelerometer, Wi-Fi radar and Wi-Fi channel state information, allowing Alexa to act more proactively without constant user commands.
According to Dilip R.S., Director and Country Manager, Amazon Devices India, the displays are designed to help families stay organised and connected, while integrating more seamlessly into daily routines.
Bigger displays, thinner bezels
The Echo Show 11 features an 11-inch Full HD display, while the Echo Show 8 uses an 8.7-inch HD panel, both with edge-to-edge glass and thin bezels that boost usable viewing area. Ambient visuals adjust brightness to match room lighting for more comfortable viewing.
Both devices include:
-
13 MP auto-framing camera
-
Noise reduction for calls
-
3D-knit fabric finish
-
Support for video calls via Alexa or the Alexa app
Spatial audio upgrade
Audio has received one of the biggest upgrades, with Amazon calling these its best sounding smart displays in India. Hardware changes include:
-
Front-firing stereo speakers
-
Custom woofer
-
Spatial audio processing
-
Full-range drivers placed beneath the display for forward sound projection
Users can stream via Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, JioSaavn, Audible and more, depending on subscriptions.
Smart home and security features
The built-in screen allows for several smart home functions:
-
Control for compatible smart lights, plugs, ACs, TVs and appliances
-
Recipe browsing and shopping lists
-
Calendar and reminders
-
Multi-camera feeds with up to 4 live streams visible at once
-
Drop In for in-home video check-ins
The displays can also stream Prime Video, Netflix and YouTube (via Silk browser), extending their role as compact entertainment hubs.
Privacy controls remain central
Amazon has included multiple privacy layers, including:
-
Microphone on/off button
-
On-device camera shutter
-
Camera and voice recording controls in the Alexa app
-
Access to the Alexa Privacy Hub
Pricing, colours and availability
The devices are available across Graphite and Glacier White, and are priced at:
-
Echo Show 11: Rs 26,999
-
Echo Show 8 (4th gen): Rs 23,999
Buyers can find them on Amazon.in, Flipkart, and at Croma and Reliance Digital stores.
Amazon confirmed that both displays are designed to be compatible with Alexa+, the company’s generative AI assistant, once available in India.
Why this matters for the smart home market
The launches show Amazon’s strategy of moving beyond voice commands into context-aware homes, where devices react to presence, sound and environmental changes. This could push rivals like Google and Apple to accelerate similar ambient computing features in India.
