The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has finally released a request for proposal (RFP) to award the Indian Super League’s (ISL) commercial rights for 15 years (2025–2040). The rights package includes broadcasting, sponsorship, marketing, and merchandising. Only companies with a net worth of at least ₹250 crore can bid, with an annual minimum guarantee of ₹37.5 crore to the AIFF.
The move comes as AIFF’s existing agreement with its commercial partners is set to expire on December 9.
However, the release of the RFP sparked concerns among ten ISL clubs, who expressed disappointment over AIFF’s failure to meet its commitment to the Supreme Court. The Court had mandated that AIFF complete the process to appoint a new commercial partner before October 15.
In a letter to AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey and the Executive Committee, the clubs said:
-
No prior communication or transparency had been provided regarding the tender process.
-
The delay has made financial planning, sponsorship discussions, and player commitments difficult.
-
AIFF’s inaction constitutes a breach of trust, risking the progress achieved in professionalising Indian football.
The clubs also stressed that while they have continued to cooperate in the Super Cup and other initiatives, their goodwill cannot be taken for granted amid prolonged uncertainty.
