AI Startup Anthropic to Launch First Office in India Amid Surging Demand

Anthropic, the artificial intelligence startup backed by Google and Amazon, announced on Tuesday that it will open its first India office in early 2026, marking a strategic expansion into one of the world’s fastest-growing AI markets.

The office, to be located in Bengaluru, India’s leading technology hub, will be Anthropic’s second Asia Pacific outpost after Tokyo. The move reflects the startup’s aim to capitalize on rising enterprise adoption of AI, the growing availability of skilled AI talent, and increasing investor interest in the region.

India, with nearly a billion internet users, has become a key market for global AI companies. Anthropic’s AI chatbot, Claude, which competes with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, has already seen strong uptake in the country, particularly for its coding capabilities. While Claude is offered through free and paid tiers, the startup has not yet rolled out local currency pricing in India.

“India represents a critical growth market for AI innovation. Opening a dedicated office will help us better serve our users and collaborate with local enterprises,” said Dario Amodei, Anthropic’s co-founder and CEO, who is scheduled to visit India this week to meet government officials and business partners.
