Actor Vishal Brahma Caught With Drugs Worth ₹40 Crore at Chennai Airport

Bollywood struggler Vishal Brahma, who appeared in a minor role in the 2019 film Student of the Year 2, was arrested at Chennai airport on Monday after being caught with methaqualone worth ₹40 crore.

The 32-year-old actor from Assam had just returned from Singapore on Air India flight AI 347 when officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted him with the contraband. According to sources, Brahma had been roped in by a Nigerian drug syndicate.

Lured by Drug Cartel

Investigators revealed that Brahma, in need of money, had been enticed to travel to Cambodia on the pretext of a holiday. On his return journey, he was instructed to carry a trolley bag that concealed the drugs. Authorities are now expanding their probe to track down the Nigerian gang believed to be behind the smuggling racket.

Wider Nexus in Tamil Nadu

This arrest comes against the backdrop of an ongoing crackdown on the narcotics network in Tamil Nadu. In June, Kollywood actors Krishna and Shrikant were detained under the Narcotics Act following a nightclub brawl, which exposed a deeper web of drug peddling, a job scam, and land-grabbing operations.

Police have also alleged that an individual named Prasad, with the help of contacts in the police department, accessed call records and locations of several people to extort money. The same investigation led to the arrest of Senthil, an armed reserve head constable in Madurai, highlighting how far-reaching the network may be.
