AAP Protests Central Government in Etawah

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a protest in Etawah against the central government, citing the alleged mistreatment of social activist Sonam Wangchuk at Jantar Mantar and pressing critical issues concerning the youth.

Party district president Sanjeev Shakya stated that the government's stance reflects arrogance in power, attempting to suppress the voices of farmers, women, and youth. He accused the authorities of crushing protests using batons and tear gas.

Concerns Over Unemployment and Paper Leaks

Shakya expressed deep concern over the pervasive unemployment and recurring paper leak incidents across the country. He highlighted that Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike signaled the urgent need for the government to address youth problems.

He emphasized the paramount importance of securing the future of the youth and ensuring their voices are heard for the nation's development.

Demand for Education Minister's Resignation and Inquiry

In solidarity with these demands and to support Sonam Wangchuk's resolve, protests are being held in various districts nationwide. The AAP district president called for the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Additionally, he demanded a high-level inquiry into the alleged lathi-charge and forceful actions against Sonam Wangchuk and the youth.

Emphasis on Strict Laws and Employment Guarantee

During the protest, Sanjeev Shakya stressed the necessity of enacting stringent laws against 'paper leaks' to prevent tampering with students' futures. He also called for concrete policies to ensure stable employment opportunities for the youth.

AAP leaders advocated for the protection of the constitutional right to peaceful protest, which serves as a medium for expression at places like Jantar Mantar.

Background of Sonam Wangchuk's Protest

Notably, Sonam Wangchuk began his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar on June 28, 2026, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He was hospitalized on July 18, 2026, due to health reasons and ended his 26-day hunger strike on July 23, 2026.

Following this, Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from his post as Union Education Minister on July 25, 2026. Furthermore, the government implemented the 'Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Act, 2026' on August 1, 2026, to curb paper leaks and fraud in public examinations.
