🏅 20-Year-Old Samrat Rana Creates History, Wins Gold at ISSF World Championships

India’s Samrat Rana, a 20-year-old shooter from Karnal, Haryana, scripted history by winning gold in the men’s 10m air pistol event at the ISSF World Championships 2025 in Cairo. This was only his second international tournament and first World Championship appearance — making the victory even more remarkable.

🇮🇳 Double Glory for India
Adding to the celebration, Varun Tomar bagged bronze with 221.7 points. This marks India’s first-ever world title in the 10m air pistol category — and the first time two Indians have stood on the same podium in this event.

🎯 A Nerve-Wracking Finish
Samrat scored 243.7, narrowly defeating China’s decorated shooter Hu Kai by just 0.3 points. Despite Hu’s dominance this season, Samrat remained calm under pressure. “I just wanted to do well; I didn’t think about medals or competitors,” he told TOI after his win.

👨‍👦 A Father’s Dream Fulfilled
Samrat began shooting in 2018 under the guidance of his father, Ashok Rana, who once dreamed of becoming a shooter himself. “My father couldn’t train due to financial issues, but he always encouraged me. I train with him at home in Karnal,” Samrat shared.

🏆 Coach Praise
Former Commonwealth Games champion and coach Samaresh Jung lauded the youngster, calling his composure “extraordinary.” He said, “A low shot can derail even veterans, but Samrat didn’t flinch. His performance will be remembered for years.”
