16 Delhi Metro Stations Remain Closed Today for Security Reasons, DMRC Confirms

Security Measures Keep 16 Delhi Metro Stations Shut

In a bid to maintain the prevailing security arrangements in the national capital, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to keep entry and exit facilities at 16 metro stations closed on Thursday, July 23. This decision will be in effect from 7:30 AM until further notice.

However, for the convenience of passengers, interchange facilities will continue to operate at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat stations, allowing passengers to switch between metro lines. This restriction has been imposed in light of recent protests in the capital and alerts received from security agencies.

Security has been heightened significantly over the past two days due to ongoing demonstrations in central Delhi and the Jantar Mantar area. As a consequence, partial restrictions have also been implemented on Delhi Metro services.

Stations Closed Due to Security Concerns

The 16 metro stations where passengers will not be allowed entry or exit today include Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramkrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Seva Tirtha, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, and Shivaji Stadium. Passengers will be unable to enter or exit the metro from these stations.

Passenger Inconvenience Caused by Closures

The closure of metro stations is causing significant inconvenience, particularly for office-going employees, students, and daily commuters. An increase in traffic pressure and congestion on alternate routes is anticipated during morning and evening peak hours.

Many passengers may have to take longer routes to reach their destinations, resulting in a loss of both time and energy.

DMRC Appeals to Passengers

The Delhi Metro has appealed to passengers to obtain the latest information on metro services before commencing their journey. Passengers have also been advised to use alternative modes of transport if necessary.

DMRC stated that the security situation is under constant review and the closed stations will be reopened as soon as the situation normalizes. Security forces are on high alert across the capital, with additional police personnel deployed in sensitive areas. The administration has urged citizens to cooperate and refrain from spreading any rumours.
